2024: A Year in Review on the Going Zero Podcast

As we close out 2024, we can’t help but reflect on the year that’s passed—a year filled with conversations that made us think, stories that inspired action, and solutions that gave us hope for a more sustainable future.

The Going Zero podcast started this year with a question: What does sustainability mean to you? And while we heard answers as diverse as our guests, one thing was clear—sustainability isn’t a goal; it’s a journey. It’s the messy, challenging, yet rewarding process of making better choices for our planet and future generations.

The Episodes That Shaped 2024

  1. Biodiversity and Beyond
From butterflies to dung beetles, our discussion on biodiversity reminded us that even the smallest creatures hold ecosystems together. This episode reinforced that protecting nature means protecting ourselves.

  2. Circularity Without Compromise
Industry leaders like Interface showed us how circularity isn’t just about recycling—it’s about rethinking everything, from product design to supply chains. Who knew carpet tiles could teach us so much about resilience and innovation?

  3. Food Systems in Focus
Whether it was discussing food waste with NYC’s Mayor’s Office or exploring on farm food waste, food and agriculture emerged as central themes. These episodes taught us that sustainable food systems require both equity and ingenuity.

  4. Fueling the Future
Hydrogen, fuel cells, and on-site energy—our episodes on clean energy proved that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. Special shoutout to Aquaria for turning air into water and earning a TIME Best Invention nod!

The Heart of the Conversation

Every guest brought their own unique lens to sustainability, but one common thread tied them all together: action. Whether it was tackling food waste, reimagining packaging, or scaling renewable energy, our guests showed that solutions exist—we just need the willpower to implement them.

What to Expect in 2025

Looking ahead, the Going Zero podcast will focus on topics that push the boundaries of what’s possible:

  • Regenerative agriculture and the role of rural communities in global food security.

  • Circular economy innovations that turn waste into resources.

  • Innovators working on sustainability everyday.

  • Policy shifts and their impact on sustainability at both local and global levels.

We’re also excited to revisit some of our favorite conversations and dig deeper into themes like equity, resilience, and climate action.

A Thank You to Our Community

This podcast wouldn’t exist without you—our listeners—and the incredible guests who shared their time and expertise. To everyone who joined us this year: thank you.

A Call to Action

As we look into 2025, we would like to ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on your own sustainability journeys. What steps have you taken? What’s next for 2025? Whether it’s joining a CSA, choosing local food, or reducing waste, every action counts.

Let’s make 2025 a year of bold action and big ideas.

See you in January for more stories, solutions, and inspiration.
